Why Maritime Law, Safety, Security
Maritime law is the distinct body of law governing navigation and shipping. Maritime transport is the backbone of international trade and the global economy. Around 80% of global trade by volume and over 70% of global trade by value are carried by sea and are handled by ports worldwide. These shares are even higher in the case of most developing countries.
Given the breadth of the world’s oceans and the vast number of dissimilar voyages and cargoes carried, it is obvious that maritime law is one of the most important and developing fields of law.
